The Aquaporin protein regulates the influx and efflux of water molecules from live cells and has been ”programmed” by nature to let only water that is 100% clean in and out of the cells. It is this efficient ”sluice mechanism” that AquaZ encapsulates and utilises in membranes for water purification.
The purification process can be gravity-driven and may increase water throughput by 5-10 times compared to traditional state of the art desalination technologies; making seawater finally a viable economical alternative for freshwater for human consumption and thus help solving the global potable water scarcity challenge.
AquaZ is deeply focused on developing membranes, which can be produced using industrialised processes and can withstand harsh working environments.
